Tarpon fishing in Costa Rica

Ariel view - Costa Rica Colorado River Tarpon Fishing Lodge

Location: Barra del Colorado

The Colorado River (Rio Colorado) offers the finest Tarpon fishing available in Costa Rica. Its remote location can only be accessed by boat or plane plus it is part of a National Park system that is well protected. The tropical forests surround some of the most scenic waterways along the eastern coast. There is no finer place to experience Costa Rica's remote splendor.

As you can see in the photo above (thanks to Google Maps) there are plenty of inland waterways and lagoons to provide days of fishing and site seeing opportunities.

If the slideshow above peaks your interest then continue reading to find out why a Costa Rica Tarpon Fishing Lodge might be one of the best vacations you can ever experience.

What can you expect?

Sansa AirlineYou will depart early from San Jose International Airport on Sansa Airline and arrive at Barra del Colorado Airport in less than one hour. With a very short walk to stretch your legs and you will find yourself at the lodge. Maybe have a snack, drop off your gear, board your boat and be on your way.

Everything you need will be supplied for you. Fishing rods and reels for each type of fishing and you having the opportunity to select from some lures to catch the big one. Lunch will provided on the boat including a few choices of drinks to quench your thirst.

22 foot center console Tarpon fishing boat

Usually these boats are in the 22 to 26 foot center console class with outboard engines. Fourstroke engines are very common. In most cases there will only be two fishermen per boat. If you and a family member want a boat, but only one wants to fish there is no problem. Now they can take all the picures.

Tropical DinnerAt the end of the day you will return to the lodge to get cleaned up to have a relaxing evening and some great Costa Rica cooking. Most rooms have air conditioning and there is a jaccuzzi available as well. The bar does have a happy hour and there are many tropical delights to choose from.

While planning your trip you might have chosen to take a river boat to Limon by way of inland water ways to returnt to San Jose at the end of your trip instead of flying back.
