Reserve your Costa Rica Charter Early

April 1st, 2007

From Crystal
My family is traveling to the Manuel Antonio area / Quepos in December. We are interested in a DAY- Trip (half, full, whichever) that is affordable. There will be 5 men fishing. Are there any companies that allow non-fishers on board? If there are we are definitely interested in that, if not, then just the five men. Are there larger boats, where you don’t have to charter your own? We were hoping that the whole family could join and watch, but if not, we just want something that is reasonable. Thanks for any help. Your website is resourceful

Hello Crystal,
You made a great choice in starting so early for your vacation. This will give you many more opportunities actually.

1. I might be able to find someone that is able to give you a discount based if you pay for part of the trip during the off season. No guarantee, but sometimes owners need revenue during the slow season and are willing to make a deal. (Sometimes)
2. Most allow for cancellation if you give them 60 days notice they will refund your full deposit, though sometimes there is a small fee.
3. You have allowed for plenty of time for a good selection so you can get one of the better boats for a good price.

Answer to your question about other people (non fisherman or family) on the boat. Many Costa Rica deep sea fishing companies do allow a family member such as the wife, brother, sister. Not all have the same policies though. Virtually all charge for each additional person, usually $50 per person. This typically covers meals and snacks for them too.

A question or so from you before we get started on this.

1. You mentioned family and 5 men fishing. How many people would you like if it was affordable?

2. What will work for you budget? This question saves both of us time and I like to be direct. The other thing is it is usually the first topic when I’m dealing with the owner of a boat.

Comments:
If you have lodging already taken care of, great! If not let me know. I have lived here for four years and I’m from the US. My wife and I are working on finding the best lodging resources that are affordable and nice in Costa Rica. We will be publishing them on the site as we go. We just started this so we only have a few, but we should have around 15 or more within one month or so. If you are not aware of it, decent lodging can be found for $50 to $100 per night and there are also condos and vacation rental homes available most everywhere.

Thanks for contacting us and I look forward to hearing back from you.

Costa Rica fishing news is open for posting

January 17th, 2007

Please accept our apology for rarely having this blog open to allow posts and comments from you the reader. Well over a year ago when we put this blog up we were bombarded with spam. After many different times of spending hours removing all the spam we finally decided to shut the blog down so that the outside world could no longer make comments for posts.

As of today we are going to reopen this Costa Rica fishing news blog with some new anti-spam software that should help to protect it from those that wish to abuse it.

Please feel free to ask questions about fishing trips, methods used for catching game fish in Costa Rica, travel tips, prices, and even to post comments about your experiences that you have had while visiting Costa Rica in the past. Obviously when first opening a blog it takes a little time to catch up and get back in the swing of things for monitoring and keeping track of all the messages posted in making time to reply. We will do our best and your input is greatly appreciated.

Costa Rica Tarpon fishing

January 17th, 2007

Fishing in Costa Rica on the east coast allows fishermen the opportunity throughout the year to fish for Tarpon. These fish are prized trophies for anglers wherever they are found. Tarpon really enjoy the Caribbean coast and the freshwater found coming into the Gulf from the rivers.

Without a doubt one of the most popular places Tarpon are found is at the mouth of the Rio Colorado and the surrounding area. These large fish will travel up the Rio Colorado in to the Rio San Juan and continue their journey all the way to Lake Nicaragua. Each day brings a new challenge in different conditions for the angler allowing him to test his skills using both heavy and light gear to tackle these tremendously large game fish.

Tarpon fishing is well-known for fishermen that like a warm water and a large assortment of fish available along the coastal areas of Florida. Many sportsmen are not aware that Costa Rica can offer them even more for his fishing adventure with less crowds and a much more diverse area for wildlife and entertainment.

There are many different fishing charter companies and resort areas in Costa Rica for people to choose from and the Internet will allow you to find a package to suit your needs.

Holidays and Fishing Vacations in Costa Rica

December 5th, 2006

Interestingly enough this site has shown that the holiday season not only stirs up the giving of gifts and celebrations, it call deep into those true fisherman that need to get out of the cold and warm up their angling skills. Ladies, you should take note in this for proposals that might even involve you getting a tan in December. If your man loves ocean fishing then this is your opportunity to relax on the beach with a tropical drink while he is away fighting some Marlin and having a blast.

Costa Rica tourism season is basically opposite that of the United States because of the weather. Fishing on the other hand is great no matter what time of year it is. Some of the most popular fish men seek when coming to Costa Rica are, Marlin, Roosterfish, Sailfish, and Tuna. These fish put up fights that fisherman remember forever and they are willing to travel half way around the world to find.

Fishing Vacation Tip: Spend the time on the Internet to find a company that allows you to book a fishing date in which you’re allowed to be included with a group of other fishermen. Groups will save you money and at the same time allow you to meet new people. Typically groups consist of two, three, or four people in which all have agreed to fish together though they don’t know one another. Guanacaste and Los Suenos are two very popular Pacific Coast fishing areas that provide anglers an excellent example of world class fishing in Costa Rica can provide.
