Costa Rica Fishing - Yellowtail Snapper Picture

Fish Description: The back and upper sides of a Yellowtail Snapper have an olive to bluish color with yellow spots. The lower sides and belly have alternating narrow longitudinal pink and yellow stripes. With a prominent mid lateral yellow stripe that begins at the mouth and runs all the way to the tail, broadening as it passes the dorsal fins and into the tail. The caudal fin is yellow and deeply forked with no visible dark lateral spot.

Size: Common to 3 pounds.

Remarks: Found mainly in tropical waters and rarely exceeds 30 inches or 5 pounds in size. The Yellowtail Snapper feeds on small fish and invertebrates.
