Costa Rica Fishing - Yellowfin Grouper Picture

Fish Description: The Yellowfin Grouper has quite a pattern of color like other members of the Grouper family of fish. It can range from a greenish olive or bright red with longitudinal rows of darker black blotches over entire fish. The outer one-third of pectoral fins are bright yellow in color for its name and the lower body parts of the larger fish have small bright red spots.

Size: Common in the 20 pound range.

Remarks: Undergoes sex reversal from female to male in latter part of life which is typical of its family. In a few parts of the world this fish can actually be poisonous so make sure you know what your doing before choosing not to release one. The Yellowfin Grouper feeds on fish and squid.
