Fish Description: Chin has no barbells and the body of the Red Drum is a copper-bronze color and is a lighter shade in clear waters. Typically it has one to many spots at the base of the tail (rarely no spots). The mouth is horizontal and opening downward and the scales are large.

Size: A 27 inch Red Drum weighs about 8 pounds on average.

Remarks: Red drum are Inshore species until they attain roughly 30 inches (4 years). After that they migrate to join the near shore population. Feeds on crustaceans, fish, and mollusks and can live up to 20 years of more.
